Here we go… my first post.
To be completely honest, I haven’t actually decided what I’ll be writing about on this blog. I love the idea of having somewhere to express ideas and explore thoughts. I just have no idea what those ideas and thoughts are yet!
So, to start, maybe a brief introduction might be a good idea! I’m a primary school teacher and the mother of two brilliant and crazy little girls. I’m in my early 30s – quickly approaching mid-30s, which is now alarmingly close to late 30s.
I read. A lot. Mostly fiction, but with a few autobiographies thrown in for good measure. I gravitate towards the fantasy / sci-fi genres, but also love thrillers, detectives stories, historical and period-set novels – especially when there’s a bit of the gothic about them. I read a lot of classics too.

I started a Master’s degree in Children’s Literature last year. It was a bit of shock going back to essay writing again, but I’ve really enjoyed it so far and am looking forward to the term starting again in October. I’m also ever so slightly terrified, because the amount of work required was a little more than I was expecting. Or rather, I hadn’t quite thought through the logistics of completing the extensive reading and the essay writing with working full-time, driving my girls around to their millions of extra-curricular clubs, and maintaining a semi-normal life! I’m sure that this academic year will be a little smoother now that I know what to expect. I’ll have everything under control – no stress involved…

Yeah. I don’t believe me either.
I love to travel and am itching to see as much of the world as possible. I also love photography. I’ve taken a couple of workshops to try and power up my skill level, but need to practise more so that I don’t forget everything I’ve learned on the courses. I really want to be able to capture interesting and unusual images of the places I visit – and to also improve my editing skills. A work in progress!
There are several things that I would love to be good at, but am finding it difficult to push past mediocre! I draw, but need something as a point of reference – rather than being able to just sketch from imagination. I sew and knit, but usually make a bit of a hash of things! I am trying to improve my French and Welsh, but get so nervous when even the most basic conversation is struck, that ‘lapin dans les phares’ is probably the best description! But that’s not to say I’m giving up on any of these skills. They’re just going to need more time and perseverance.
Well, I think that covers some of the basics. Introduction and first blog post complete!
